Hello, WordCamp Nashville!

Hello everyone, my name is Steve Wilkison.

I’ve put my presentation on the web for you to follow along with if you’d like or if you want to refer back to it after I’m finished.

Because this is a WordPress presentation on custom themes, I decided that rather than using PowerPoint or Keynote, I’d simply build a little theme and house my presentation there.

As you can see, the design is nothing fancy. It’s clean, basic and simple. I want to concentrate today on exactly how you turn your design into a custom theme. Once you understand that, you’ll be able to use the same process with any design, regardless of how complicated, intricate or involved it might be.

I’m a Associate Professor at Watkins College of Art, Design & Film where I teach web design and web development. I also own a small company named Digital Vision Media where I design, code and build websites, including lots of WordPress sites.

I’ve been designing and coding websites for almost 20 years. I used to work in the music business, so a lot of the web work I do is for artists and bands, record labels and other music related companies.

I’ve been creating custom WordPress themes for the last 3 or 4 years.
